TECHNICAL TERMINOLOGY CREATION WORKSHOPS HELD

The Directorate of Official Language (DOL) in collaboration with the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Education, Government of India organized a technical terminology creation workshops at the Directorate of Official Language, Panaji as part of its ongoing efforts to enrich and standardize scientific and technical terminology in Konkani language.
Director of Art & Culture, Shri Vivek K. Naik while addressing the gathering at the inaugural function of the workshop said the initiatives such as the preparation of standardized terminology enrich the language and promote its effective and accessible use in every day communication, education, administration and other fields.
The Geography Technical Terminology Creation Workshop was in the domains of Geography, Mass Communication/Journalism, and Dramatics. Assistant Professors and Konkani language experts attended the workshop. During the workshop, the participants deliberated extensively on subject-specific Fundamental Technical Terminology and prepared a draft terminology by coining and standardizing suitable Konkani technical terms for various geographical concepts.
The Mass Communication technical terminology creation workshop and Dramatics Fundamental Terminology workshops were conducted simultaneously. Renowned personalities from drama, theatre, tiatr, films were invited as subject experts along with Konkani language experts and linguists who participated in these workshops and worked collaboratively to identify, discuss, and coin appropriate Konkani for equivalents technical terminology used in their respective domains. First phase of Dramatics was completed, whereas the review workshops on Mass Communication was conducted, where already created terms were finalized by the experts during the meeting following detailed deliberations and consensus among the experts.
The draft glossaries prepared during these workshops will be further reviewed and refinement before being considered for publication. These initiatives represent a significant step towards strengthening and expanding scientific and technical vocabulary of Konkani language, thereby promoting its effective use in academic, technical, and administrative domains.
The terminology preparation in various other subjects will also be taken up by the Directorate and the procedure for the same is already underway.
The representatives of the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Education, Government of India were also present on this occasion.
