FDA ISSUES ADVISORY ON BANNED DRUG

The Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration has informed that the Central Government in exercise of powers conferred under Section 26A under Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 has prohibited the manufacture, sale or distribution for human use of 16 Fixed Dose Combinations.
This prohibition has been imposed pursuant to recommendation of the Drugs Technical Advisory Board for the reason that these FDC’s have no therapeutic justification: also are likely to involve risk to human beings and safer alternatives to the said drugs are available.
All the drug retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, Government Hospitals / District Hospitals / UHC / CHC / PHC / Dispensaries under the Directorate of Health Services, Goa Medical College & Hospital, Goa Nursing Homes / Hospitals, Goa Medical Council / IMA as well as the Registered Medical Practitioners across the State are hereby informed to take note of the above ban on FDC’s.
Similarly, the banned drugs Notification document of various FDC’s has been uploaded on the Directorate’s website www.dfda.goa.gov.in .
Also all the RMPs / Doctors / Physicians are advised to ensure that no prescriptions are issued for these drugs in larger patient safety interest and all the retailers / wholesalers are advised to exercise extreme care and caution; not to dispense / distribute these banned drugs.Further,drugs retailers, wholesalers, hospitals, Dispensaries, clinics are advised to identify these drugs at their premises and remove the same from their shelves and return back to their respective suppliers under intimation to this Directorate.
