CM FLAGGED OFF NEW FIRE FIGHTING VEHICLES

Reinforcing the Government’s commitment to strengthening emergency response capabilities, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today flagged off a fleet of newly inducted Fire Fighting Vehicles at the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, St. Inez, Panaji. The induction of the modern fleet marks a significant step towards enhancing the State’s fire safety infrastructure, improving disaster preparedness and ensuring faster, technology-driven emergency response across Goa.
Marking a major upgrade to the State’s emergency fleet, the new induction comprises eight Mid-Sized Water Tenders, one 42-metre Turn Table Ladder, one Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Response Vehicle and eight operational support motorcycles. Five Water Tenders have been procured under the 15th Finance Commission, Government of India, at a cost of approximately ₹5.43 crore, while three additional Water Tenders worth approximately ₹4.49 crore have been procured through Government of Goa funds to replace condemned firefighting vehicles. The induction of these modern vehicles will significantly strengthen firefighting, rescue, disaster response and operational readiness across the State.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant said, the safety of every citizen and the protection of life and property remains the Government’s highest priority. These modern firefighting vehicles will significantly strengthen the emergency response capabilities and ensure quicker, more effective assistance during emergencies. He thanked the Government of India for its support under the 15th Finance Commission and commended the officers and personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services for their dedicated and selfless service. Reaffirming the Government’s commitment, he said continued investment in modern equipment, manpower and training will further strengthen the State’s emergency response system and public safety infrastructure.
Advancing technology-driven emergency preparedness, the fleet also includes a 42-metre Turn Table Ladder, procured by the Government of Goa at approximately ₹11.41 crore, to strengthen high-rise firefighting and rescue operations. The vehicle, procured under the 15th Finance Commission, Government of India, at approximately ₹5.39 crore, to respond to chemical spills and hazardous incidents. Representing a total investment of approximately ₹22.80 crore, the newly inducted fleet marks one of the most significant additions to the State’s emergency response infrastructure in recent years.
Strengthening a future-ready emergency response network, the newly inducted vehicles will be deployed across Fire Stations in Canacona, Curchorem, Vasco, Pilerne, Pernem, Margao and Ponda, replacing ageing vehicles and enhancing operational readiness across the State. Equipped with GPS-based Vehicle Tracking Systems for real-time monitoring and efficient emergency dispatch, the fleet is further supported by eight operational motorcycles procured through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) to improve field mobility and operational efficiency.
The programme was attended by Director of Fire and Emergency Services Shri Nitin Raikar, along with other officers.
