NVBDCP issues clarification regards misleading news story on dengue death, says neither rapid nor confirmatory dengue test was conducted

Panaji, September 09, 2024

National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Directorate of Health Services, Government of Goa, has issued a clarification with regards to a misleading news story appearing in the media regarding a suspected dengue death of a labour at Cutbona Jetty.
NVBDCP clarified that the said death published/telecasted on the print and electronic media as a case of “Suspected Dengue death of a labourer at Cutbona jetty” was misleading as the “said labour was suffering from severe loose motion, vomiting and high fever and since he was taken straight from the trawler to South Goa District Hospital and was declared as brought dead”. Hence in the above labourer, neither rapid nor confirmatory Dengue test was conducted and labeling it as dengue death was not correct.
NVBDCP further said that the dailies and news channel, sensationalized the death news without confirmation from the concerned officers.
