World Malaria Day observed

National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, Directorate of Health Services observed World Malaria Day today at Institute Menezes Braganza hall. The theme of this year is Time to Deliver Zero Malaria Invest, Innovate, and Implement.
The Chief Guest for the function Director, ICMAR, VCRC- Pudducherry Dr. Ashwani Kumar said that Goa has seen a downward trend in Malaria cases in recent years. Mosquito is a tricky species that breeds in manmade situation and has to be tracked with a solution. While presenting at the event he highlighted key points on eradicating malaria with innovative technology which is under process. He further added that WHO has been working on house designs that are mosquito-proof.
State program officer NVBDCP- Goa Dr. Kalpana Mahatme said that this occasion is to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained commitment to malaria prevention and control. World Malaria Day presents an opportunity to engage civil society, the private sector, community leaders, and the general public to work for elimination of malaria. “There has been a gradual reduction in the cases of malaria in Goa. Goa is on a right track towards achieving eradication of malaria”. She added.
IMA State Vice President Dr. Sandesh Chodankar appreciated the health service officials and paramedical staff who have been working tirelessly towards the elimination of malaria. With the technology and strategic plans, Goa is not far behind in achieving its target of zero malaria cases.
On this occasion, poster and reels making competitions were held and the winners along with participants were felicitated with certificates.
