SAWANT URGES MEDIA TO PROJECT CORRECT IMAGE OF GOVT

Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant today urged the Media fraternity to support the endeavour of the Government to project its image in right perspective. In this context, the Chief Minister said, that the critics are always welcomed but the journalist should ensure that before penning any news, they should check its authenticity so that image of the State is protected and not maligned.

Speaking as a Chief guest at a function at the , organized by the Department of Information and Publicity in the city today, Chief Minister urged journalists to focus on constructive journalism and not destructive, keeping in mind that Goa is an international tourist destination and efforts are being made to see that Goa emerges as a tourist capital of the country.

The Chief Minister said, the government through the Department of Information and Publicity has solved most of the issues of journalism be it providing Laptop/camera enhancement of pension/family pension, Journalist protection Act among others. He said, the long pending demand of Photo Journalist Association of Goa has been fulfilled by providing the office space by the Government. The Chief Minister also informed that, in order to facilitate the journalist to gain valuable knowledge.

It is the media who can project the State in such a way that will make the people explore Goa, its rich environmental treasure, its sanctuaries, various tourist spots, its heritage as well.

The Chief Minister said that the Government expects constructive criticism and not destructive. To fulfil the objectives and goals, the Government would require cooperation of the media to take ahead its programme and policies which are meant for the development of the State and welfare of the people, the Chief Minister added.

Secretary, Information & Publicity, Shri Subhash Chandra, IAS, emphasizing on the role of media said, that it is the responsibility of media to make proper reporting to disseminate true information to the public. Right and proper information will help the public and the Government to function properly. Government has implemented various schemes in the interest of journalism, he remarked.

Editor & Anchor CNN &18, Shri. Anand Narsimhan who was the resource person, in his address said, that those who are in the field of media need to keep themselves updated in terms of day to day happenings around us. Effectivity of information lies upon the dissemination of information on a time to time basis.

He further said that a media person has to read newspaper, magazines to become knowledgeable. He exhorted the person to embrace new technology to enhance and develop the ability of writing and telling stories. They should keep a positive approach to acquire knowledge and pass on the same to others.

Professor (Journalism) Savitribai Phule College, Pune, Dr. Sanjay Tambat spoke on a subject of Changing Environment, challenges and opportunities in contemporary journalism.

Minister for PWD, Shri Nilesh Cabral was also present on the occasion.

Assistant Information Officer, Shri. Shyam Gaonkar compered the function. Whereas the Director, Information & Publicity, Dipak Bandekar, proposed the vote of thanks.
