HEATWAVE AND MONSOON PREPAREDNESS REVIEWED

The Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Revenue), Shri Sandip Jacques, IAS, reviewed the State’s preparedness for heatwave conditions with temperatures steadily rising as well as the upcoming monsoon season in a meeting with senior officials and laid strong emphasis on proactive and coordinated measures to safeguard the public from heat-related risks.

Shri Jacques stressed the urgency of timely and coordinated interventions to mitigate the impact of heatwaves, urged authorities to sensitise the public to remain alert, adopt necessary precautionary measures to stay safe during extreme heat conditions, directed all departments to appoint Nodal Officers at the State and district levels to ensure prompt response and effective coordination in addressing any emerging issues and emphasised that officials must remain alert, vigilant, and responsive during such situations.

Shri Jacques called for intensified campaigns on the dos and don’ts during heatwaves through multiple communication platforms, highlighting the importance of public awareness, also directed that adequate arrangements be made at public places, including the provision of safe drinking water and first-aid facilities, to support people during periods of extreme heat, also urged officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue timely alerts on rising temperatures and disseminate advance warnings to enable the public to take necessary precautions and avoid venturing outdoors unless absolutely necessary.

During the meeting, line departments presented a detailed outline of the Heatwave Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and highlighted key action points to be implemented in the presence of Collector, North Goa, Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS; Joint Secretary (Revenue), Shri Surendra Naik; and other senior officials.
