GOA JOINS NATIONAL MISSION TO ELIMINATE DRUG ABUSE UNDER NASHA MUKT BHARAT ABHIYAN

“For a developed India by 2047, we must build a drug-free nation.” says Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant

Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was inaugurated at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Bambolim, reinforcing Goa’s commitment to building a drug-free society. The national campaign aims to create awareness, prevent substance abuse and encourage community participation in eliminating drug addiction.

The initiative, launched nationally on 15 August 2020, has evolved into a large-scale public movement, sensitising crores of citizens across the country, including youth and women. In Goa, the campaign is being implemented through awareness drives, school outreach programmes, Prahari Clubs and coordinated efforts involving law enforcement agencies, educational institutions and civil society organisations. Authorities continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement to curb the inflow of narcotics from outside the State and country, with significant seizures reported in recent months.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, “Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 must also mean a Nasha Mukt Bharat.” He emphasised that youth participation is crucial in this mission and urged every individual to take a pledge against drug consumption. He called upon citizens to support counselling and rehabilitation efforts, guide vulnerable individuals towards recovery, and actively cooperate with authorities in reporting illegal activities. Chief Minister also appreciated those who have chosen the path of de-addiction, acknowledging their courage and determination.

The programme was attended by Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, Social Welfare Minister Shri Subhash Phal Dessai, Shri Brahmanand Shankhwalakar, Shri Sushant Pant, Smt. Pratima Gupta, representatives of various NGOs, students from schools and colleges, and other dignitaries.
