GOA SETS CLEAR ROADMAP TO ACHIEVE 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY BY 2050: CM DR. SAWANT

India Energy Week 2026 commenced at ONGC, Betul, South Goa, under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, with a strong focus on India’s growing leadership in the global energy sector. The four-day event brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and energy experts from across the world to deliberate on the future of energy, economic security, and sustainable growth.
The event has drawn participation from over 75,000 energy professionals, 700 exhibitors, 11 thematic zones, and more than nine country pavilions. Through focused conferences, technology showcases, and networking platforms, India Energy Week aims to strengthen collaboration and innovation across the global energy sector.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural ceremony through a video message, noting the steady growth of India Energy Week as a global platform for energy dialogue. He highlighted India’s role among the leading exporters of petroleum products and emphasised the need for investment in exploration, refining, LNG, shipbuilding, and petrochemicals under the vision of Make in India, Scale in India, and Invest in India.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister Dr. Sawant said, “India Energy Week has evolved beyond a conference into a global platform where ideas are translated into action. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India will continue to lead with responsibility and innovation.” Highlighting the state’s role, he added, “Goa strongly aligns with the national vision through sustainable development, the green and blue economy, and by creating opportunities for tourism and local employment.” He further stated that the state provides a positive and open environment for dialogue on economic development and warmly welcomed all delegates, CEOs, and international participants.
The inaugural programme was attended by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC, United Arab Emirates, Mr. Timothy Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Canada, along with delegates from over 120 countries and more than 550 speakers from across the world.
Later, Dr Sawant visiting the State Pavilion at the IEW, 2026 evinced keen interest in the development showcased in green energy.
Minister for PWD, Shri Digamber Kamat, Chief Secretary, Dr V Candavelou, IAS; Secretary to CM, Shri Ashvin Chandru, IAS, Secreatry Legal Metrology, Shri Sanjeev Gadkar, IAS; Secretary to Governor, Shri Arjun Mohan, IAS were among those who visited the pavilion and the Goan Shack.
India Energy Week 2026 which is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, and officially supported by the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), will be India’s largest and only all-encompassing energy exhibition and conference, bringing together the entire energy value chain, and will serve as a catalyst for India’s energy transition goals.
The Government of Goa has set up a special pavilion to showcase the developments in the area of green energy in the State of Goa, with information counters setup by key departments.
A special ‘Goan Shack’ is also being setup to present a holistic experience of Goan tradition and culture, art and handicrafts, cuisine, etc. for the visiting delegates.
Necessary branding work at the venue and setup of performance stages with light and sound at the airports are designed to welcome the visiting delegates to Goa.
The Goa Pavilion at India Energy Week 2026 showcases this journey in partnership with key state institutions – Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA), Goa Electricity Department, and Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) Goa Electricity Department and the Deposit Refund Scheme (DRS) – who together form the backbone of Goa’s clean energy and circular economy ecosystem.
Their collective efforts reflect a coordinated, whole – of-government approach to transforming how energy is produced, distributed, consumed, and recovered. The Pavilion brings together Goa’s flagship initiatives across renewable energy, bioenergy, green cooking, innovative solar applications,net-positive villages, resilient public infrastructure, and waste-to-resource systems, demonstrating how climate action can be practical, scalable, and people-centric.
As India Energy Week 2026 convenes global leaders, policymakers, and innovators under the theme “Transforming Energy, Transforming Our World”, Goa presents a compelling narrative – one where clean energy is not just produced, but embedded into everyday life, setting replicable benchmarks for sustainable development across India.
