NATIONAL SEMINAR ON TRIBAL SOCIETIES AND DEVELOPMENT DISCOURSE IN INDIA

The Sociology Discipline and the UGC Centre for the study of social inclusion of D. D. Kosambi School of Sciences and Behavioural Studies, in association with the Directorate of Tribal Welfare and Tribal Research Institute, Government of Goa, has organised a one-day national seminar on the theme, “Tribal Societies and the Development Discourse in India” on September 26, 2025 in the seminar Hall Block B, Goa University as part of celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh (150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
The seminar will address key contemporary concerns of tribal communities, such as sustainable tribal development, tribal unrest, indigenous knowledge, and its socio-cultural paradigm. Eminent scholars of repute from the indigenous studies would be deliberating on the theme.
Shri Ramesh Tawadkar, Minister for Tribal Welfare, alongwith Sr.Prof. Harilal B. Menon, Vice Chancellor and Prof Sunder Dhuri, Registrar, Goa University; Ms Chesta Yadav (IAS), Secretary, Tribal Welfare, Shri Deepak Desai, Director, Tribal Welfare, Shri Sagar Gaude, Director Tribal Research Institute, Prof. Nagendra Rao, Dean, D.D.Kosambi School of Social Science and Behavioural Studies (DDKSSSBS) and Dr. Arvind N. Haldankar, the organizing Secretary and Vice Dean, Academic, DDKSSSBS Goa University will attend the seminar.
Five distinguished speakers of national and international repute who will enrich the deliberations with their insights include: Prof. Virginius Xaxa, Prof. N. Sukumar, Prof. Sukant Chaudhury, Padma Shri Vinayak Khedekar, and Dr. Pandurang Phaldesai. The event seek to deepen understanding of tribal development for promoting research and encouraging inclusive, sustainable dialogue.
