WE HAVE TO WORK IN UNITY: KHAUNTE

To meet challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, garbage and sewage management etc, we need to sit down together and work in unity in vision and social harmony, said Minister for IT and Tourism, Shri Rohan Khaunte after unfurling the national tri-colour on the occasion of India’s Independence Day, in Mapusa, today.

Shri Khaunte further said that we should not only ask what our country and State can do for us but instead we should look at how we can contribute.

He said that the ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’, ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ and ‘Partition Horror Remembrance Day’ are some of the initiatives to inculcate a sense of patriotism among the youth and give them a sense of direction because the youth are the future as India is a young country.

Focusing on the steps taken by Goa Government to increase employment, Shri Khaunte said that technology is soon becoming an economic driver and as such the State has taken several initiatives to give a boost to the industry. If we need to create employment we need to skill our work force and for that we should have a wholesome education system he said while commending the introduction of the new National Education Policy (NEP), which he said would revamp the education system giving students wider options to choose from as their study discipline which in turn would give more opportunities for them in future. Encouraging and protecting the mother tongue and culture would help India on its journey ahead, he added.

Talking of how the State start-up policy has created jobs, Shri Khaunte several new start-ups have been certified in the State and have been given financial assistance and it was a proud moment for the State to see the ideas of these start-ups fructify.

He further added that the Government is taking steps to welcome industries like animation etc which would generate revenue to the State and which would create employment opportunities.

Calling tourism a major contributor to the GDP, Shri Khaunte said that the State Government has introduced ease of doing business and online services which has resulted in less paper work and has made Goa attain an investor friendly approach. He further stated that the Government was working on promoting eco-tourism in the State.

On the occasion, freedom fighters were felicitated. Shri Khaunte said that their sacrifices should not go in vain and we should forever be grateful to these freedom fighters for fighting for our freedom.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Fisheries, Shri Nilkanth Halarnkar, members of Mapusa Municipal Council, Government Officials, among others.
