DRIVE AGAINST GARBAGE DUMPING HELD IN NAVELIM

Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) and Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) jointly conducted an enforcement drive for curtailing dumping of garbage today from 7 am onwards at Navelim Village Panchayat-Salcete, near Umeya Mercado mall. The following officials were present Shri. Adarsh Dessai – BDO Salcete, Shri. Saiel Kamat – Assistant Manager – GWMC, Shri. Siddhant Desai – Junior Environmental Engineer – GSPCB, Shri. Krupesh Dessai – Engineer – GWMC, Shri. Mariano Paulo Vincente Pereira – Sarpanch – Navelim Village Panchayat, Shri. Sandeep Halyali – Secretary – Navelim Village Panchayat, Shri. Swadesh Dessai – PSI – Goa Police and Shri Rohan Naik – PC – Goa Police.

The aim of the enforcement drive was to spread awareness, maintain vigil and curtail locals and passersby from dumping garbage along the roadside. Further, more of such exercises are planned, and the team also explores ways in which the dumping can be stopped and curtailed further. The GWMC and GSPCB officials jointly suggested that the Panchayat shall improve door to door collection efficiency by engaging more workers and also implement collection of wet waste within the jurisdiction of the Navelim Village Panchayat. Overall it was a successful endorsement drive as it spread awareness within the village of no dumping garbage.
