CoP DIRECTS TO OBTAIN PERMISSION FOR ALL DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS IN INLAND WATERS

The Captain of Ports Department, Government of Goa have informed that all the developmental projects in the inland waters of Goa, in appurtenant/riverine land and all Non Major Ports would be undertaken only after obtaining mandatory; permissions from the Captain of Ports. Any violation will invite serious legal consequences.

It has observed that several development works are being taken up along the Government Riverine Land, Inland Waters of Goa and in the areas declared and notified as the “Port Limits” without obtaining the necessary permission from the department. So all the concerned including the Government Departments is therefore invited that the Captain of Ports, Government of Goa is the Designated Authority for the State of Goa for the non-major Ports of Goa. Development taken in the said areas mandatorily require prior permission from the Captain of Ports under the requisite laws in force.

The inland waters includes the canals, rivers and other navigable waters up to 5 Nautical miles from the baseline of the Coast and the Port limits including the waters of rivers Mandovi, Mapusa, Naroa (including Cumbarjua Canal), Tiracol, Chapora, Sal, Talpona, Galgibag and Zuari eastward of Agaciam-Cortalim ferry points. It also includes any piers, jetties, landing-places, wharves, quays, docks, ramps, moorings and other works made on behalf of the public for convenience of traffic, for safety of vessels or for the improvement, maintenance of the port and its approaches, whether within or without high water mark, any portion of the shore or bank within fifty yards of the high water mark, even if property is privately owned.
