Panaji, 28 March 2026
A free health check-up camp for women was organised at the Community Health Centre, Sankhali, under the ‘Check by Doctor’ initiative being conducted from 8 March to 31 March 2026. The initiative aims to promote preventive healthcare and encourage women to prioritise their health and well being.
The camp offered a wide range of medical screenings and services, including tests for hypertension, diabetes, breast cancer, oral cancer, reproductive tract infections and anaemia, along with Pap smear tests, sputum testing, AYUSH OPD services and family planning counselling. Special focus was given to maternal and adolescent health through services such as pregnancy and postnatal check-ups, counselling sessions and administration of the HPV vaccine for young girls, which plays a crucial role in preventing cervical cancer.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said, “Women often take care of their families but neglect their own health. If women are strong and healthy, families will be stronger and more secure.” He highlighted that the initiative, launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day, has witnessed encouraging participation, with over 40,000 women across Goa and 935 beneficiaries at Sankhali availing health check-ups. He also appreciated the efforts of doctors, nurses and healthcare staff for successfully implementing the programme across the State.
CM Dr. Pramod Sawant further emphasised the importance of public awareness in achieving a TB-free India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged citizens to seek timely medical check-ups in case of persistent symptoms. He noted that healthcare teams are actively reaching out to communities to strengthen early detection and treatment.
The initiative reflects the Government’s continued focus on strengthening preventive healthcare, improving access to medical services and promoting awareness among citizens, particularly women, about the importance of regular health check-ups. The programme is being implemented across Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs), Urban Health Centres (UHCS), sub-district and district hospitals across Goa.
The programme was attended by Health Officer Dr. Atul Pai-Bir, Sarpanch of Harvalem Smt. Gauravi Naik, Sarpanch of Velguem Smt. Yogita Haldankar, Shri Rama Naik, President of Sankhali BJP Mandal, Councillor Smt. Vinanti Parsekar, Smt.
