CM INAUGURATES VACUUM SEWER NETWORK FOR PANAJI CITY

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today inaugurated a project that includes providing, installing and commissioning of Vacuum Sewer Network along with house connection for low lying areas in Panaji city with 5 years of operation and maintenance under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Mission at Mala, Panaji.

Chief Minister Dr. Sawant who holds the portfolio of PWD Ministry said, the Vacuum Sewer Network set up at Panaji is the first of its kind in the country which will be significant in reducing water pollution caused by untreated sewage. Houses in low lying areas in Mala and St.Inez, Panaji left without proper sewerage system will be benefitted with the project.

Chief Minister applauded the PWD for executing the project of Vacuum Sewer Network which would be way forward to curb direct discharge of wastewater in the river.

Councilor Shri. Shubham Chodankar, Shri. Nilesh Morajkar, Chief Engineer, PWD (Water Supply) Shri. Santosh Mhapne, Superintendent Engineer Shri. Vishwambar Bhende, Executive Engineer Shri. Pandurang Nadkarni, Assistant Engineer Shri.Harish Jawaji, Director of Nashville Infra Services Shri. Jatin Panchal and other were present on the occasion.

The project has been initiated by Public Works Department under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Mission has cost Rs.8.52 Crores which will include maintenance for a period of 5 years. The project is executed by the Agency Nashville Infra Services limited and technology support is rendered by the Agency Iseki Vacuum System Ltd. REDIVAC for the project.

Although Panjim city has a sewerage network, there are few pockets in the city left with no sewerage connections which includes low lying areas like Mala and St.inez. In feasibility study it was observed that conventional gravity sewers and onsite wastewater treatment technologies were inappropriate for the low lying areas hence the vacuum sewerage system has been adopted for the Mala and St.Inez areas.
