DR.FRANCISCO LUIS GOMES REMARKABLE HERO IN GOAN HISTORY: ALEIXO SEQUEIRA

Minister for Environment Shri.Aleixo Sequeira today expressed that Dr. Francisco Luis Gomes was remarkable hero in the history of Goa and India. He was speaking at a State level function organised to commemorate Death Anniversary of Dr. Francisco Luis Gomes by South Goa Collectorate at Navelim today.

Minister Shri. Sequeira in his address stated that Late Dr. Francisco Luis Gomes who was great son of Navelim village propagated the Idea of equality, freedom, truth and justice. In the Portuguese parliament Dr. Gomes gave the voice for the concept of national freedom. He advocated for Goan interests in the Portuguese parliament and fought against inequality and socio- economic injustice.

Shri. Sequeira appealed student community to propagate the ideas and principles of freedom and social equality propounded by the late Dr. Gomes. If the students are convinced with the ideas they can convinced other people in the society. He also urged young generation to strive hard to build the society on the principles of equality, peace and justice.

Chairman of the Dr. Francisco Luis Gomes Memorial Trust Shri. Luizinho Faleiro said that Dr. Gomes has contributed enormously towards social, educational and cultural betterment of the Goa during colonial rule. He was the first to propound the concept of freedom in the Portuguese parliament 35 years before the actual freedom movement could started in India.

Shri. Faleiro informed the gathering about various achievements of Dr. Gomes and appealed young generation to propagate these ideas to excel in life. He appreciated efforts of Chief Minister Dr.Pramod Sawant for declaring Birth and Death Anniversaries of Dr. Gomes as a State function as assured by him last year.

Earlier, the Minister Shri. Aleixo Sequeira alongwith other dignitaries paid rich tributes at statue of Dr Francisco Luis Gomes at Navelim Memorial.
