EXTEND PRIORITY TO LOCALS FOR EMPLOYMENT: MAUVIN

The Government exhorted upon the stakeholders of industrial sector to extend priority for local youth with regards of employment opportunity and do not to spread the perception among local people that locals are prohibited in industrial sector which does not do any good to anyone said Minister for Industries Shri Mauvin Godinho speaking at the inaugural function of 10 th Edition of CII Goa Conference On Logistics with a theme ”Creating Synergies to Catalyze the Next Wave of Sustainable Growth of Logistics Sector in Goa,, which was Organized by Confederation of Indian Industry CII Logistics in the city today.

The Minister categorically speaking said usually it so happens that once an industrial project is conceived and locals are deprived of employment opportunities on the grounds of skill, is not fair. The Minister suggested to the stakeholders to consider locals for employment opportunities and work out mechanisms to make locals eligible and not allow to spread the perception that locals don’t stand a chance for gainful employment.

The Minister speaking further said it was a common notion towards Goa that Goa is only for tourism where tourists come enjoy and go. We have got some good industries in Goa with our new industrial policy with regards to warehousing, logistics which will make a positive change hereafter in Goa. Government is already working towards strengthening the ecosystem for industry in the State. With the launch of portal online, things would be simplified for Ease of Doing Business. Government intends to make Goa a Logistic Hub “This he said could be an alternative option for industry and trade. He appreciated CII for their endeavour in the sector of industry.

Minister for Environment, Law & Judiciary Aleixo Sequeira while addressing said, it is the States endeavour to strengthen port infrastructure, modernize shipping operations, administration, and focus on propelling the maritime sector to new heights keeping in mind the goals of Sustainable Shipping with respect to Pollution, Safety of Navigation, Security and protection of the environment.

The Minister said that the vision of the Government is to foster a blue economy, promoting the development of Green ports, sustainable infrastructure and Cruise Tourism etc. He appreciated the good work being undertaken by the CII.

Chairperson CII Western Region Smt Swati Salgaonkar in her address said that we gather at a crucial time when Goa, with its strategic location on the western coast of India, is on the verge of transforming itself into a leading logistics hub. Goa’s potential as a logistics powerhouse is immense, and with the right infrastructure, policy frameworks, and investments, we can position the state as a key gateway for trade, both domestic and international.

Smt Salgaonkar speaking further stated that the Government of Goa has been working tirelessly to develop the State’s logistics capabilities through infrastructure upgrades, policy reforms, and several other initiatives including actively promoting private sector participation.

Smt Salgaonkar also said that over the last decade, the CII Goa Conference on Logistics has served as a crucial platform for dialogue and development in the State’s logistics industry. Collective and sustained efforts of all the stakeholders, especially the State government, have led to tangible, positive changes in Goa’s logistics ecosystem.

Smt Salgaonkar said that she was extremely pleased to share the new initiative of the State Government of Goa towards establishing the State’s Centre of Excellence on Logistics along with CII & Goa Institute of Management which will prove another milestone in transforming Goa into a leading coastal logistics hub she opined. She also hoped that this conference, and the ensuing discussions will provide actionable insights and create synergies. that will not only benefit Goa and the logistics industry, but also the entire region and nation.
