AYURVEDA SHOWS THE PATH TO A HEALTHY LIFE: CM

Asserting that ayurveda shows the path to live a healthy way of life Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant said medical and wellness tourism will be ramped up in the State by involving all ayurvedic doctors and practitioners.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of four day long 9th World Ayurveda Congress ( WAC) and Arogya Expo on the theme “Ayurveda For one Health” which encapsulates the philosophy of wellness envisioned by the ancient sages like Acharya Charaka organized by the world Ayurveda Foundation, an initiative of Vijnana Bharati with the support of the Union Ministry of AYUSH and the Government of Goa in the Panjim City today.

Speaking further he said being an Ayurvedic practitioner, I am supporting the endeavor of making Goa a prominent place for wellness tourism, with the support of the Central Government. Goa now has the 2nd all India Institute of Medical Science Ayush Hospital. This institution will provide Under-Graduate, Post Graduate, and Phd Course where goan students will get 50% reservation in admission. The Goa government has started Ayush wellness centres at all Primary Health centres in Goa, he remarked.

Welcoming all the International delegates participating from 35 counties for WAC, Dr Sawant said that the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has positioned India at a Greater level by creating awareness of our treasure of Knowledge. He said that all the Stakeholders of Ayurveda and allied Medicine should remain grateful to the Prime Minister for setting up the AYUSH ministry for the first time in India’s independence.

Highlighting the various initiatives taken by the Prime Minister for taking the Ayurveda at greater heights, he said with the vision of new Ayush Visa overseas patients can come to India and easily seek medical treatment and benefit from the traditional medicine that India has to offer. Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy are all major branches of AYUSH that are practiced in India, he added.

Dr Sawant urged the people of Goa to derive benefits of this Expo and participate in this 4days long WAC in large numbers.

Highlighting the History and the success of World Ayurveda Congress ( WAC) and Arogya Expo Union Minister of State, Shri Shripad Naik said that the first World Ayurveda Congress was held in Kochi in 2002 as an outreach programme to promote Ayurveda within India. Since then, the event has become international and has been held in Pune, Jaipur, Bangalore, Bhopal, Delhi, and Kolkata. Ayurveda – along with other traditional forms of medicine in India – has received a tremendous boost, the potential of Ayurveda and its time tested potential have an immense potential to heal and supplement modern medicinal practices, he added.

He further said that this initiative will strive to hammer out a roadmap leading to globalization of Ayurveda and harness its potential as a reliable, scientific and prevention- oriented healthcare system.

Health Minister Shri Vishwajit Rane also spoke on the occasion.

The event will see 500 participants, including over 400 foreign delegates from 53 countries The conclave, being attended by the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) for the first time, is packed with six plenary sessions and as many number of concurrent sessions in addition to 20 associate events, such as International Delegates Assembly, WHO event on Traditional Medicines, and Guru-Shishya Meet. In addition, there will be around 3,800 abstracts for oral, e-book and poster presentations.

The major topics to be deliberated include Expanding the Scope of Ayurveda – New Age Prospects; Innovations and Entrepreneurship; Ayurveda Education; Ayur Informatics; Innovation Ecosystem; Health and Environment; and Heal in India.

There will be 150 keynote speakers from around the world. An Ayurveda expo and cultural programmes, including a documentary film festival on Ayurveda, will also be part of the event.

Art and Culture Minister Shri Govind Gawade, Ministers from other States and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
