TECHNOLOGY CRITICAL FOR IMPROVEMENT IN EDUCATION: SHIRODKAR

Highlighting the importance and relevance of the adoption of technology in the educational process and the critical role that technology would play in bringing out the improvement, the Water Resource Minister Shri Subhash Shirodkar reiterated that education must undergo continuous reforms and innovations for achieving excellence and enhanced results. This is an age of science and technology where every sphere of life and activity is guided by modern science and technological devices, he added.
Shri Shirodkar was speaking as the chief guest at a function organized by Shivgram Educational Society at Shiroda in honour of the 260 students who passed in distinction and first class in the recently held Goa Board SSC Examination from all the fourteen schools in Shiroda constituency, yesterday.
Speaking further, the Minister said that choosing a career or the area of study is very important in every student’s life. The doors of job/business are open to students pursuing higher education in the field of science and technology. An engineering-based education provides exposure to various technical subjects and skill sets. Shri Shirodkar urged the students to select IT, Computer, Mechanical and Electronic courses and choose their future in this field.
Minister said the national report of the National Achievement Survey has revealed that the education sector in Goa is lagging behind in mathematics. It is the responsibility of every school to create interest and improve the method of teaching mathematics without creating fear in the children.
Speaking further, Water Resources Minister Shri Subhash Shirodkar appealed to all schools in Shiroda to take up this challenge and make positive changes in mathematics in the coming years. Emphasis should be placed on quality of education rather than facilities to address the declining quality of education. For this, engineering is the only recognized field in the world. Students can contribute to the development of the country while shaping their own future, he observed.

Prof. Shri Abhay Bamaikar, Shri Amit Shirodkar, Sarpanch Shiroda, Principal of Shiroda Higher Secondary School Ishwar Hegde, Headmasters of various schools were present on the occasion.
