77th Republic Day Observed in Goa with Emphasis on Constitutional Values and Development

The 77th Republic Day of India was commemorated with patriotic fervour and solemnity at the function held at the Goa University Ground, Taleigao. Citizens, students, and officials gathered to mark the adoption of the Constitution and reaffirm their commitment to democratic values, unity, and good governance.

The celebrations began with an impressive ceremonial parade by contingents from the Navy, Armed Forces, Goa Police, Home Guards, NCC, and school students, demonstrating discipline, coordination, and dedication. Patriotic songs and dance performances by school children added colour and emotional resonance to the occasion, reflecting the spirit of unity, devotion, and national pride. These performances set the tone for recognising the contributions of individuals and organisations who have excelled in public service, social welfare, and sustainable development.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju said the Constitution remains the guiding light of the nation, embodying the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. He added that Republic Day is an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities of every citizen to uphold these values and strengthen democratic institutions. Highlighting India’s progress towards Viksit Bharat 2047, the Governor noted that Goa has aligned itself with this vision through its long-term strategy of Viksit Goa 2037, which focuses on inclusive development, decentralisation, public safety, social justice, and sustainable growth.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant extended his Republic Day wishes to the people of Goa. He praised the patriotism and unity displayed during the celebrations and emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in advancing Goa’s development across social, economic, and environmental sectors. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, good governance, and the welfare of all citizens.

The event also included the conferment of State and National-level awards recognising exceptional contributions across sectors. These included awards for exemplary service in government departments, the State Awards for Welfare of Persons with Disabilities 2025 for Best Employer, Best NGO, and Best Entrepreneur, as well as the Krishi Ratna and Krishi Vibhushan Awards, along with special awards for excellence in organic and sustainable farming. Shri Rahul Gupta, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Crime), Goa, was honoured with the Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak (Investigation) for 2024.

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister of State, Shri Shripad Naik, Power Minister Shri Ramkrishna alias Sudin Dhavlikar, ECA MLA from Canada Shri Rajan Sawhney, the Chief Secretary, Dr V Candavelou, IAS, the Director General of Police, senior govt officials and other esteemed dignitaries, highlighting the importance of the event and its inclusive nature.
