MEDIATION CENTRE AND TRAINING INSTITUTE INAUGURATED

The High Court of Bombay at Goa through High Court Mediation Monitoring Sub-Committee Goa, recently inaugurated its Mediation Centre and Training Institute, a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting alternative dispute resolution, capacity building in mediation and enhancing access to justice at the Old High Court Building, Altinho, Panaji.

The Mediation Centre and Training Institute was inaugurated by Smt. Justice Bharati Dangre, Senior Judge, High Court of Bombay at Goa, in the presence of Shri. Justice Valmiki Menezes, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee, Smt. Justice Nivedita P. Mehta, Judge, High Court of Bombay at Goa and Shri. Devidas Pangam, Advocate General for the State of Goa. Several other dignitaries from the legal fraternity attended the inaugural ceremony.

Shri. Justice Valmiki Menezes, Chairman of High Court Legal Services Committee in his welcome address said it is a proud moment for the Goa State Legal Services Authority to inaugurate the Mediation Centre and Training Institute in Goa. He announced that first set of Mediators would be trained by coming Monday who will be leading light and brand ambassadors of the process of Mediation which is powerful tool of alternative dispute resolution. He emphasized that chances of success in Mediation as means of ADR are higher and the process takes place with confidentiality within closed doors.

Smt. Justice Bharati Dangre, Senior Judge emphasized the Importance of Mediation in enhancing access to justice and reducing the burden on the court system.

Shri. Devidas Pangam, Advocate General for the State of Goa in his address said that State of Goa has added a local facility which increases the option available to the people of Goa to resolve disputes amicably. He emphasized that this Mediation Centre is a product of initiative and sustained efforts of the Judiciary, members of the bar and many other committed individuals. He said local Mediation Centre offers a community based accessible way to resolve disputes thereby reducing pressure on our Courts saving public and private resources and preserving the social fabric that makes the State of Goa special.

The Centre aims to pre provide a conducive platform for parties to resolve disputes amicably, reducing the burden on the Court system, while the Training Institute will offer comprehensive training programs for mediators, lawyers, and judicial officers.
