RO RO FERRY BOATS BEGIN OPERATIONS, CM SAYS IT WILL CUT CARBON EMISSIONS

Goa got its first Ro Ro ferry boats today after their inauguration and commissioning at the Chodan-Ribandar route at Chodan ferry ramp. Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant, at the inaugural function said that the use of these ferry boats will cut down on carbon emissions. He also said that these boats which have been made in Goa are testimony to the innovative talent Goans have and further said that ship building avenues are opening up in Goa and the State will soon form shipbuilding clusters.
Dr Sawant further said that the vision of the honorable Prime Minister is the optimum use of inland waterways and in Goa, it will be used for public transport and tourism purposes, the Chief Minister said. He further said that the Ro Ro ferry boats are being undertaken on a PPP basis and based on reviews, the Government will contemplate starting them on other river routes as well.
The two Ro Ro ferry boats ‘Dwarka’ and ‘Gangotri’ will commence operations along the Chodan-Ribandar route and have state of the art facilities like AC seating, medical staff on board etc.
Minister for Inland Waterways, Shri Subhash Phaldessai thanked the Chief Minister for his prompt support in taking up projects for the people of the State.
Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Naik, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Shri Sadanand Tanavade, Secretary, RND, Ms Cheshta Yadav, MLA, Mayem Constituency, Shri Premendra Shet, members from various neighbouring panchayats, among others were present on the occasion.
