TRAINING PROGRAMME ON GROUND WATER MANAGEMENT HELD

Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) an apex organization for Groundwater development and management under the Ministry of Jal Shakti in association with Applied Geology Program, SOEAS, Goa University organized a one-day Tier III training program on “Ground Water Development and Management Practices” at the Goa University yesterday.
The main purpose of the programme was to create awareness about groundwater development and management issues of precious natural resources and to sensitize the youth about the conservation of Groundwater.
The Chief Guest for the program was Registrar, Goa University Prof. Sunder.N. Dhuri who emphasized on the ancient wisdom practices about conservation and lauded the efforts of CGWB in organizing such a beneficial program. Regional Director, Central Groundwater Board, Bangaluru Sri N. Jyothi Kumar delivered the keynote address and highlighted the role of youth in nation-building and the pivotal role it played in the groundwater sector. Scientist and Officer in Charge, CGWB, State Unit Office, Belagavi , Smt. Sangita. P. Bhattacharjee delivered welcome address.
The Dean, SEOAS Prof. Sanjiv Ghadi, Vice Dean, Academic and Research, SEOAS Dr A. Viegas, and Asst. Professor and Program Director, Goa University Dr Niyati Kalangutkar were also present.
Eminent experts from CGWB delivered technical lectures on various topics, including hydrogeology, rainwater harvesting and artificial recharge to groundwater. Over 95 students from Department of Earth Science and Research Scholars participated in the programme.
