INAUGURAL LECTURE OF CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ HELD

Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy in collaboration with D.D. Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies, Goa University organized the inaugural lecture of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chair in Leadership and Governance. The inaugural lecture titled International Leadership and Governance: Ensuring Responsible Conduct in Peacekeeping Missions was delivered by Dr. Andras Hars, Ludovika University, Budapest-Hungary on August 30, 2024 at Conference Hall,Goa University in the august presence of Professor Rajendra S. Gad, Dean, Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy, Professor Ganesha Somayaji, Dean, DD Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies and Professor Koshy Tharakan, Dean School of Sanskrit, Philosophy and Indic Studies, Goa University.

Professor Rajendra S. Gad in his welcome address said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was known for his administrative and bravery skills, leadership and governance which are worth emulating in present times. Professor Koshy Tharakan who was the Presiding Authority of the lecture stressed that ethical precedence is needed in international leadership as we are a global community.

In the keynote address, Dr. Andras Hars emphasized that the legacy of Chhatrapati Maharaj can be emulated by United Nations Peacekeeping Operations in the realm of self-rule, civil administration that serves the people and dignified conduct during armed conflict. Dr. Hars highlighted the best practices and encouraging examples which have been adopted in peacekeeping operations.The lecture series was coordinated by Ms. Vaibhavi Rane, Assistant Professor, MPSLGPP.

At the second lecture of the series titled “Governance and Leadership: Strengthening Integrity in Peacekeeping Operations” held on August 30,2024 at G.R Kare College of Law, Dr. Hars elucidated the importance of integrity and strong governance in the effectiveness of peacekeeping missions. At the third lecture of the series titled “Governance Challenges in Safeguarding Human Rights in Peacekeeping” held at V.M Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, Dr. Hars expounded various issues related to safeguarding Human Rights during Peacekeeping.
