CUNCOLIM REVOLT WILL ALWAYS INSPIRE YOUTHS: SUBHASH PHAL DESSAI

Minister for Social Welfare, Shri.Subhash Phal Dessai expressed that Cuncolim Revolt in 1583 by the 16 Chieftains against Portuguese rule will always inspire youths to strive hard for making the State more prosperous, self-sustainable achieving the goal of `Viksit Bharat` in near future. He was speaking after paying rich tributes to Chieftains Memorial on the occasion of Chieftains Uprising Commemoration day at Cuncolim today.
Minister Shri. Phal Dessai said that Cuncolim Revolt by the 16 Chieftains against Colonial rule has great significance in the history of freedom struggle. The revolt could be the first rebel against foreign rule in the country. He appreciated Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for his efforts to incorporate the history of Cuncolim Revolt in the textbooks of IX and XI std.
Shri. Phal Dessai also lauded the Dr. Sawant`s Government for commemorating Chieftains Martyrs Day at national level by paying homage at National Memorial, Delhi on July 15. It may be recalled that Commemoration of Chieftains Uprising is being held at Cuncolim on July 15 has been declared as a State function since last three years.
More than 65% of the Indian population comprises the youth, depicting great strength and ability of young generation to lead the country towards greater development and economic growth. Youths need to battle against all sorts of social evils such as drug abuse etc. for making Goa more prosperous, self-reliant, Shri. Phal Dessai added.
On the occasion retired Judge Shri. Edger Fernandes was felicitated with Cuncolim Bhusan Award for his tremendous contribution towards social upliftment and upright service. Shri. Tulsidas Desai was felicitated with `Cuncolim Shree` Award for his remarkable contribution in the field of education and Smt. Delia Pereira was felicitated for her noteworthy service as a banker with an award `Cuncolim Jyoti`. Journalist Shri. Ramesh RautNaik was felicitated with Cuncolim Mitra award.
Collector South Shri. Asvin Chandru, IAS, Superintendent of Police, South Goa Smt. Sunita Sawant, President of Cuncolim Chieftains Memorial Trust Shri. Oscar Martins, President of Goa Daman & Diu Freedom Fighter Association Shri.RohidasDessai and others were present on the occasion.
