Dr. Irene Silveira, Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies at the ShenoiGoembab School of Languages and Literature, Goa University, has been awarded the prestigious Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques.

Established in 1808 by Emperor Napoleon, this esteemed knighthood is a national honour conferred by the French Republic. It recognizes distinguished academics and educators worldwide for their significant contributions to education, universities, and science.

Dr. Silveira has made remarkable contributions to the French language and culture through her various academic and cultural endeavours. As the former Deputy Director of Alliance Française, Panaji, she led teacher training programs, skill development initiatives, and organized numerous cultural events. She has been the recipient of multiple scholarships, including the International Teacher Training Scholarship awarded by the French Embassy in India and CIEP, Sèvres, Paris, in 2015.

Dr. Silveira’s doctoral research focused on Goan immigration to France, exploring the social and linguistic integration of the French-Goan diaspora. A prolific scholar, she has presented and published papers at numerous national and international conferences. In 2023, she was selected for the Academic Staff Mobility under the MOBILE 2 BE Project, financed by the European Commission within the framework of ‘Erasmus’, at the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto, Portugal.

Currently, she serves as the Programme Director of M.A. French, while also advancing research as a Ph.D. research guide for French doctoral students at Goa University.

This French honour celebrates Dr. Silveira’s exceptional scholarship and her outstanding contributions to French education and culture.
