CM TO LAY FOUNDATION STONE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF KUNBI HANDLOOM CRAFT VILLAGE IN UGUEM – SALAULIM

The Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant will lay foundation stone for development of Kunbi Handloom Craft Village in Uguem – Salaulim Village in Sanguem Taluka on February 29, 2024 at 11.00 am. This project is setup by the Department of Handicrafts, Textile & Coir and Goa Handicrafts, Rural & Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd. (GHRSSIDC). The project is designed to promote Kunbi textile and aid the weavers in their art and profession. The village shall have facilities like display and workshop blocks, storage areas, training and design areas, accommodation for artisans, classrooms and sales area.
The artisans shall have facilities to display their crafts, impart and receive training and sell their products. Dedicated areas for bamboo, pottery and coir crafts have been earmarked.
The project was approved by the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) under the National Handloom Development Programme and a grant of Rs. 10.00 Crores under Centrally Sponsored Scheme has been approved as Grant-In-Aid for the proposal. GHRSSIDC Ltd., has been nominated as the Implementing Agency for the project. The total cost of the project is Rs. 10,72,20,400.40 excluding GST. The balance shall be borne by the State Government. The work has been awarded to M/s City Construction, Margao.
