RAJ BHAVAN TO ORGANISE BOOK RELEASE PROGRAMME

Raj Bhavan will organise a programme to release a Coffee Table Book “Heritage Trees of Goa” in English written by Governor of Goa, Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai on August 18, 2023 at 12.00 pm. Two more books of Governor Shri P S. Sreedharan Pillai namely ‘When Parallel Lines Meet” (English) and “Ente Priya Kavitakal” (Malayalam Poems) will also be released along with Coffee Table Book “Heritage Trees of Goa”.

The program will be graced by Governor of West Bengal Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, and Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant will inaugurate the function in the presence of Minister for Tourism & IT, Shri Rohan Khaunte, Jnanpith Awardee, Shri Damodar Mauzo. His Eminence, Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao Archbishop of Goa, Daman & Diu, Swami Maheshatmananda Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission — Goa and Shri Pachu Menon, Senior Journalist.

Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, compiled the information about Heritage Trees of Goa during the tours to different parts of Goa. The said book will help tourism in Goa and Tourists from all over the world who desirous to know about “Flora and Fauna” of Goa. Indian scriptures speak extensively on the sentience in plants. In Goan villages, important trees stand tall, towering as landmarks. Goa Raj Bhavan is taking up this new initiative for calling the attention of people including tourists towards Heritage Trees of Goa. Various historical, spiritual and religious old trees are located across the length and breadth of Goa.

It may be noted that Governor of Goa had visited length and breadth of Goa and spent his Excellency discretionary funds for the benefit of dialysis and cancer patients .Further Governor is going to achieve an important milestone of completing 200 books on various subjects like poetry literature, stories, short stories, etc. in English and Malayalam. The Governor is not just a prolific writer but also introduced a scheme called “Nayi Pahal’ to encourage budding and new writers to get their work published in English, Marathi Konkani and other languages .The Governor also expressed his desire to introduce schemes like Kumbhar (potter) Kunbi Saree & Kashti (Handloom),Coir, etc to support and encourage the traditional skills/occupations of the people of Goa.
