ADHERE TO VALUES OF UNITY & HARMONY TO ACHIEVE PROGRESS: CM

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant unfurled the National tri-colour to mark State level celebration of India’s 75th glorious Independence Day at a function organized at Old Secretariat Panaji today.

The Chief Minister in his fervent call appealed to the people to adhere to the values of unity, amity and harmony without which we cannot march ahead in terms of progress. He said although we have achieved good indicators in fields of education, health and infrastructure, we have to go a long way and strive hard to make Goa a fully developed, advanced and vibrant State.

Recalling the supreme sacrifice of the known and unknown freedom fighters who laid their lives for the freedom of our motherland India, Dr. Sawant said we are indebted to them as we are enjoying the fruits of freedom.

The Chief Minister further said the Government through GSIDC has undertaken various developmental projects all over the State to strengthen infrastructure for health, Education, Tourism, Industry in the State. Efforts are being made by the Government to provide adequate water to people by way of augmentation of water projects at Chandel and at Sal, he added.

Talking about Swayampurna Mission in Goa the Chief Minister Dr. Sawant said that the Government wishes to provide housing, electricity, sewerage and water for all. He said the Government is monitoring this programme by employing Government machinery, due to which the Government is marching ahead to become self-reliant, he added. He thanked the people and those who endeavoured to make this mission successful. He sought the support and cooperation from opposition parties to ensure the Swayampurna mission 2.0 successful.

Talking about the welfare of the people, the Chief Minister said the Government has implemented various schemes be it DDSSY or Graha Aadhar and Schemes for marginalised sections of society and reiterated his commitment to extend the benefit of these schemes to reach the last needy person in the society.

In regards to the Forest Act, the Chief Minister said the Government intends to extend full rights to Tribal people in the State.

During this independence celebration the government decided to present certificates of gratitude to all the freedom fighters who fought for the freedom of Goa. Freedom Fighters and family members and/or next kin of the freedom fighters were present with a certificate and memento at the hands of the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister on this occasion also handed over compassionate appointment letters to Smt. Kavita Shailesh Gaonkar, Ghodke, Balli, Quepem and Smt. Sneha Vishwas Deykar, Kagyaggal, Ambaulim Quepem Goa.

The Chief Minister presented Medals and Certificates to Police Personnel for outstanding performance which included Shri Edwin Colaco, DySP who won Union Home Minister Medal; Smt Ezlida Dsouza DySP who won Union Home Minister Medal, Shri Prabodh Shirvoikar, DySP Police Medal, Shri Sachin Lokre, PI, Police who won Union Home Minister Medal in Investigation, Shri Ravindra Desai Pl, Police, Police Medal, Shri Ladu Gawas ASI, Police, Police Medal, Shri Avinash Naik PC, Police, Prime Minister Life Saving Award, Shri Shrikrishna R. Parrikar, Station Fire Officer from Fire & Emergency received President’s Fire Service Medal, Miss Minaxi Anant Kubal, Honorary Platoon Commander, Home Guard received President’s Medal of Home. Smt. Nayan Dipu Velinglar Lady Home Guard Volunteer, Home Guard, Guards & Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service, Mr. Bharat Patil, Presidents, BJS, Goa State, ( Shantilal Muttha Foundation ) Education who was honoured with Certificate of Appreciation. Whereas Shri Shaikh Ismail Draughtsman, Gr. III Dte. Settlement & Land Records, Revenue who was honoured with Certificate of Appreciation.

The Chief Minister released a book brought out by the Department of Information & Publicity titled ‘Martyrs of Goa’.

Bharatkar Hegde Desai Pratisthan Quepem Goa was honoured for launching of digitized version of O Bharat Papers on World Web; Lokarpan of two Volumes on selected editorials from “O Bharat,, by Bharatkar Govind Pundalik Hegde Desai.

Earlier the Chief Minister inspected the guard of honour.
