Carnival Float Parade Held at Margao

Hundreds of revelers thronged Margao to catch a glimpse of the Carnival floats parade which commenced from Colva Circle near Margao District Court and culminated at the Borkar Super Store, Fatorda today evening under the strict purview of the SOP issued for the mass event.
The floats parade which was organized by Margao Carnival Committee in association with Goa Tourism was flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Babu Ajgaonkar in the presence of Chairman, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, Shri Damu Naik; District Collector, South, IAS, Smt Ruchika Katyal; Chairman, Margao Carnival Committee and Chief Officer, Margao Municipal Council, Shri. Agnelo Fernandes;
Floats including local floats depicting Goan tradition and conveying various public interest messages were participated in the traditional, club/institution, family, clown/joker, fun/junk car rally categories.
Awareness van of South Goa District Committee under Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign participated in the parade to create awareness about drugs abuse with focus on demand deduction.
Department of Information and Publicity also took part in the Carnival Parade by presenting its float along with performing artists depicting the message enlightening the people about cyber frauds and persons or entities offering to provide loans at very low rate of interest.
Police, Traffic Police and Health Department monitored the crowd during the parade. Participants were sanitized at nine entry points before being allowed to join the parade. Social distancing was strictly maintained. Collector South deputed 10 executive magistrates for the parade to maintain law and order.
Carnival parade centered on the theme “Vaccine gheiat, Jiv samballat”.
The Urban Health Centre, Margao undertook sanitization before the starting of the float parade at the nine different entry points. The health teams were stationed at the entry point with sanitizers.
