GOA STATE CONSUMER PROTECTION COUNCIL MEETING HELD

The second meeting of the State Consumer Protection Council was held under the Chairmanship of Minister for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Shri Ravi Naik, at Mantralaya, Porvorim.
The meeting was also attended by Shri Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, Secretary, Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs along with Shri Jayant G. Tari, Member Secretary of the Goa State Consumer Council and Director, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and other Members of the Council.
Shri Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, Secretary, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs underscored the collective responsibility in upholding and safeguarding consumer rights, emphasizing the need for every department to contribute actively in this endeavour.
The meeting deliberated on the proposed initiatives to strengthen consumer protection in Goa wherein a range of valuable suggestions emerged during the meeting. One key focus area was the enacting of Goa State Consumer Protection Rules, to finalise direct selling monitoring authority mechanism Rules for the State of Goa after getting suggestions from the Council Members, administrative issues of State Commissions and District Commissions pending with the State Government. Additionally, plans were discussed to have a sub office of BIS in the State of Goa and to have integrated flying squad of the Consumer Affairs with other member departments, proposed to have Consumer Conciliation Committee at South Goa among other matters.
