It is observed that on  the National Days and other important days, a lot of National Flags made either of plastic or other materials are sold to people in large number who buy such flags out of patriotism for the nation. It is brought to the notice of the public that the sale of plastic flags are prohibited. Public should refrain from purchase of plastic flags and in case they find any person selling plastic flags, they should inform the police. However, It is seen that many times these  National flags are thrown on the road or in the dustbins and other places after the functions are over, mostly unintentionally. This is an offence under Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 and the Prevention of Insult to National honour Act, 1971 and the offender is liable for punishment under these Acts.

In this connection, District Magistrate, North has appealed to members of general public that they should refrain from any action that would cause disrespect to the National Flag including throwing of National Flags on the ground, dustbins and other public places. The organizers of all public functions on the occasion of Independence Day -2018 should   also ensure strict compliance of the requirements, as per Flag code of India, 2002 issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.

Further, any person found making or selling plastic flags would be dealt with in accordance with law.
