Governor Dr. Smt. Mridula Sinha attended a tree plantation drive at Kundai Industrial Estate area yesterday. To mark the beginning of the drive she planted Tulsi saplings in and around Berger Paints factory. The tree plantation programme was a joint initiative under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ by Berger Paints, Essel Propack, Chemtrol, Oriental Containers Ltd., Hindusthan Uniliver Ltd. and Paperpack industries. 


While speaking on the occasion, the Governor Congratulated and appreciated the industrialist for their noble activity towards Swachh Bharat. “Tree plantation drive is an essential commodity of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan; infact it is one of the festivals in the monsoon season. Trees are like our ancestors. They protect us like their children by providing us with pure air, shadow and other resources. They are selfless and continue to be resourceful for generations. Hence, it is our primary responsibility to protect them,” the Governor said. She also mentioned that lessons on cleanliness and hygiene of our body, mind and surrounding has been a part of our value system and we must treasure it.  


Earlier, the programme began lighting the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. Managing Director of Goa Industrial Development Corporation(GIDC) Shri. Narayan Gad, representatives of various industries viz. Shri. P.K. Singhal, Shri. Sudip Singh, Shri. Babu Bhaskaran, Shri. S.Sunil and Shri. G.D. Patil were present among others. 


Shri. Apoorv Chaturvedi compered the function while Shri. Yeshwant Parab  proposed the vote of thanks.
