Madhavrao Dhavalikar Charitable Trust organised ‘Mahila Melava’ on March 25, 2018 to venerate Women’s Day at the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Grounds in Bandora, Ponda.

Governor of Goa Dr. Smt. Mridula Sinha was the Chief Guest for the function along with Minister for PWD Shri. Sudin Dhavalikar and renowned Marathi actress Kum. Shruti Marathe who was the Guest of Honour. Trustee of Madhavrao Dhavalikar Charitable Trust Smt. Jyoti Dhavalikar, Zilha Panchayat member Smt. Chitra Phadte, Sarpanch and Panch members of all the Village Panchayat in Ponda taluka were also present on the occasion.

The function began with lighting the traditional lamp. Zilla Panchayat member Smt. Chitra Phadte welcomed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor urged people to treat women with respect and humility. “Girls are our asset and not a curse. Goa is declared as the safest state for women and I am very proud to be its first citizen. Women are multi-faceted and their contribution towards the society is par excellence,” the Governor said.

Shri. Dhavalikar while speaking on the occasion stressed on the importance of unity among women. “If the women come together for a cause, they will yield tasty fruits: be it in professional or home front. I understand that the state is facing lack of water supply. As women, you understand the importance of water, so I request you to educate your household on proper usage of water. The Government will simultaneously work to ease this problem,” the Minister said.

Marathi actress Shruti Marathe advised the women to be confident. “Dream high and work hard to achieve it. Perseverance and hard work are the keys to success,” she said.

 Smt. Jyoti Dhavalikar and renowned Paediatrician from Ponda Dr. Nutan Dev also spoke on the occasion. 

The Governor later felicitated Kum. Shruti Marathe, Dr. Nutan Dev, Dr. Anita Tilve and Smt. Sangeeta Abhyankar for their meritorious contribution in the field of theatre, medicine, social work and education respectively. 

Dr. Anita Tilve compered the function while Smt. Nisha Naik gave the vote of thanks.

The formal program was followed by tête-à-tête with actress Shruti Marathe and Smt. Sangeeta Abhyankar and a musical program by Smt. Gautami Hede-Bambolkar and group. The function was attended by women from all the VPs in Ponda in large number.
