Governor of Goa, Shri Satya Pal Malik attended the 70th Constitution Day Celebration at a function held at Goa University Taleigao today.

The function held with the co-ordination of Goa University Department of Political Science was started by reading the 'Preamble' of the Constitution. This year the Constitution Day focused on the fundamental duties an important feature of the Constitution.

Vice-Chancellor of Goa University, Dr. Varun Sahni, Registrar  of Goa University, Prof. Y V. Reddy, HOD of  Political Science Goa University, Prof. Rahul Tripathi and  Adv. Clifford Coutinho were present on the occasion among others.

Addressing the gathering the Governor said that, constitution is an document given to us by our national leaders. Governor further explained about the  Constitutional Rights and duties which he has experienced in life.We always opt only for our rights but do not bother much about our duty which he said is not fair. As we enjoy our rights we are also bound by our duties he asserted. The Governor further urged the students to read constitution which is essential in their everyday life which will help them to gain requisite knowledge about the constitution.

Prof. Varun Sahni while speaking stressed on the article 51A(h) which envisages that It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform.

Adv.Coutinho,the keynote speaker in his address explained about the history of making of  our constitution.

Prof. Rahul Tripathi, welcomed the gathering. Ms.Anusha Narvekar compered the function while Prof. Y V. Reddy proposed the vote of thanks.
