Farmers should consult and seek expert advice from Agriculture Department while undertaking any plantation, for better yield advised Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture, Shri Chandrakant Kavlekar.


Shri Kavlekar was speaking after inaugurating a Workshop for farmers on 'Scientific Coconut Cultivation Technologies and Value Addition in Coconut' organised by Directorate of Agriculture in association with Coconut Development Board, Kochi Kerala; Zonal Agriculture Office, Canacona and ATMA, South at Village Panchayat Hall, Khola, Quepem.


Speaking further Shri Kavlekar said that farmers should adopt new scientific techniques in farming. The Department of Agriculture is working tirelessly to understand and solve the difficulties, problems and issues faced by farmers while practically undertaking agriculture and farming. Department is focussed to give more and more benefits to the farmers, he added.


Underscoring the importance of Agriculture in the human life Shri Kavlekar said that Agriculture is the base of society. Youths should wholeheartedly venture into this field. State Government with the support of Union Ministry for Agriculture is putting all its efforts to bring Agriculture field at the forefront Shri Kavlekar remarked.


Agriculture Department has marked 35 clusters in Cancona Taluka out of which 2 clusters admeasuring  4 Lakhs of land is earmarked in Khola Village Panchayat area under Coconut Farming project Shri Kavlekar said and added that the Department has made a provision of Rs.50 Crores for 3 years for the coconut farming in the State. Department is also analysing the reason for less yield of Coconuts in the State.  


Agriculture is a sector which can fetch high returns then any other industry or profession, provided professional and scientific ways are adopted.  Positive thinking is required to fulfill the dream, Shri Kawlekar pointed.
