Governor of Goa, Smt Mridula Sinha has extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa on the auspicious occasion of  Durga Puja on  October 4, 2019.

In her message, the Governor has said that India being a nation with diverse cultures, we get opportunities to celebrate numerous festivals of different religions/cultures. Many of which are celebrated with joy and grandeur. Durga Puja is one such festival which is celebrated all over the country, where everyone welcomes the Goddess Durga with utmost devotion. Durga Puja is a celebration of the Mother Goddess and the victory of the revered warrior Goddess Durga over the evil buffalo demon Mahishasura. The festival honors the powerful female force (shakti) in the Universe.

The Governor in her message says that the complete image of Goddess Durga represent destruction of evil and protection of good and reflects the point that in order to become divine one should keep one's brutal instincts under control. Thus, by worshiping Durga the idea of ruthless destruction is invoked to annihilate all the evil desires and unfold divinity. Apart from being a religious festival, it is also an occasion for coming together and rejuvenation, with a celebration of traditional culture and norms.

However, above all, the Durga Puja is essentially the worship of womanhood and the celebration of the supreme source of power – the Maa Durga. May the celebrations of Durga Puja, this year, bring added prosperity, lasting peace, enhanced joy and solidarity to one and all the Governor concludes.
