NCC Directorate (Karnataka & Goa) has organized “KONKAN ODYSSEY”, a ten day Ocean Sailing Expedition for Naval Wing NCC Cadets of Karnataka and Goa States from 3rd Oct 2019 to 12th Oct 2019, 72 Cadets are participating in the expedition which is composed of 42 boys and 35 girls of the Senior Division NCC. Three Whaler Boats will sail approximately 115 Nautical Miles over a duration of 10 Days along the coasts of Goa and Karwar and will have night halts at various Coastal Towns including Colva, Betul, Rajbag, Dona Paula, Charpora and Querim, This will expose them to the rich culture and heritage of the two States. The expedition was flagged off today at a colorful ceremony at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Vasco by Capt Devanshu Rastogi, Chief Staff Officer, Goa Naval Area. 

The aim of the expedition is to inculcate a spirit of adventure among the cadets and expose them to the water borne activities associated with the Indian Navy. During their visits to various coastal towns, the cadets will also undertake various environment related activities such as Coastal Cleanup and Tree Plantation to spread awareness of the Swachh Bharat Mission as well as Environment Conservation.


The Slogan for the sailing is “Emerging India - In Irons No More – Young and Running Free”. The slogan aptly brings out the sailing terminology “In Irons” which indicates inability of the boat to move because of headwinds, Running Free indicates ideal conditions for sail boats with the wind behind your back and the highest speed achieved. The expedition will culminate with a felicitation ceremony at INWTC, Vasco on 12 Oct 2019.


The cadets underwent training for the expedition at Karwar under a well-qualified team of instructors namely Captain (IN) DX Mendonca of 1 Goa Naval Unit NCC, Petty Officers Pappu Kumar and Deepak Kumar of INWTC Vasco and Mr Remy Fernandez, an International level sailor from Dona Paula, Goa & Raju Pagi, Sail Rigger Trainer. The cadet team leaders on the expedition are Leading Cadet Bhagyashree Naik and Petty Officer Cadet Ajit MS.
