The Government will never compromise on River Mhadei assured the Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant, at the inaugural function of Kalakirti 7th Goa Environmental Festival which was held in association with Sanjay School, Porvorim. The festival inauguration was done in the premises of Sanjay school with the symbolic pouring of water on a banana plant.

Dr Sawant speaking further said that Goans should protect the rivers in the state and said that awareness has to be created on the need to save rivers and this awareness has to percolate to the people.

Appreciating the organizers of the Environment Film Festival, Dr Sawant said that that there are few people who genuinely work for a cause and the Government supports those who genuinely work for a good cause as it will benefit the society.

The Chief Minister added that hosting an environment festival and taking it to the school students was very important because respect and love for the environment have be inculcated at a school level.

On the occasion, the team of the National award winning Konkani film ‘Amori’-which is based on the topic of water- was felicitated. As part of the environment festival, a State Level College quiz, session on e-waste, were held. As a run-up to the festival, a film competition in association with Entertainment Society of Goa on the theme of ‘Water-Elixir of Life’ was also held and the award winning entries were screened on the occasion.

Present on the occasion were Member Secretary, Sanjay School, Ms. Sheru Shirodkar, noted environmentalist, Shri Rajendra Kerkar, members of the organizing committee, Ms. Prerna Pawaskar,  Ms Rita Mody Joshi, filmmaker, Shri Dharmanand Vernekar, senior journalist, Shri Prakash Kamat, Shri Pravin Sabnis, among others.
