The 9th Road Safety Week-2019 which commenced on September 17, concluded today. The valedictory function was held at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali in the presence of Minister for Transport Shri. Mauvin Godinho. Director of Transport Shri Rajan Satardekar, Chairman of Sai Nursing Institute Smt. Sulakshana Sawant, Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali Shri. Vithoba Ghadi, Convenor of GoaCAN Shri. Roland Martins and Sarpanch of Arvalem Panchayat Shri. Guruprasad Naik were also present on the occasion.

The program began with an invocation song by students of Government Higher Secondary School, Sankhali followed by a Video Message from Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant.

Shri. Godinho while addressing the gathering urged the general public to be more disciplined and follow traffic rules and regulations. “Traffic rules are not made to follow for a week only. It has to be a continues process. People often do not follow them and then blame the RTO officials and the Government. We must change our mindset and look at the positive aspects of these rules and regulations. They are made for our betterment,” he said. Adding further Shri. Godinho said that Road safety will be observed as a continues process by the Government and indiscipline will not be tolerated. “The task of Nation building is on the shoulders of our youth, and we cannot lose them to fatal accidents. Implementation and adherence to rules will help in making Goa a better place for transportation,” he said. He also urged people to support the Government in better execution of work and schemes.

Smt. Sawant in her address said that we must work consciously to avoid road accidents. We should also spread awareness and think about how we can work to enlighten the society regarding road safety.

Earlier, Assistant Director of Transport (ADT) Shri. Minesh Tar gave a powerpoint presentation on Road Safety and traffic signs. Shri. Satardekar gave the welcome address. Students of Shree Shantadurga High School, Bicholim performed a street play.  

Shri. Minesh Tar gave a PPT on Road Safety. Students of Shri Shantadurga High School, Bicholim presented a skit on road safety followed by prize distribution ceremony of various competitions held during the week-long Road Safety Week. On this occasion, ADTs, personnel from Traffic Cell, Home Guard and Traffic Wardens were felicitated for their service towards traffic regulations and safety.

Shri. Prabhu and Shri. Jeffrey Sequeira compered the function while Shri. Sandeep Dessai proposed the vote of thanks.
