           The meeting of District Level Coordination Committee for Tobacco Control under the Chairmanship of the Additional Collector-III, Shri Arvind Khutkar discussed on the various programmes to mark World No Tobacco Day in the Office of the  Collectorate, Margao, yesterday.

 The members felt that wide publicity needs to be provided to the enforcement drives conducted at Taluka level by Mamlatdar and Police, Tobacco Control programs conducted by the PHC/UHC, Educational Institutions or Village Panchayats.  The members also stressed the need to convene a meeting with other authorities like Customs, MPT, Railway & Airport on new notification on Pack Warnings & Tobacco Free Zone for effective implementation of the Act in the respective jurisdiction.


Issues such as new pictorial pack warnings, Signage for No Tobacco Zone to all Government Building, sending a list of Consumer Welfare Clubs (CWC) in Higher Secondary’s & Higher Secondary’s Schools etc  were also discussed in the meeting.


Co-ordinator for The Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) Shri Roland Martins who is also the member on committee suggested to re-issue Public notice for new pictorial warnings which have come into force since September 1st, 2019 and to create awareness with regards to the new Pictorial Pack warnings with the BDOs, Village Panchayats etc. for better clarity and to desist the distributors not to supply Cigarette packs with old Pictorial Warnings


         It was proposed that District Nodal Officer (DNO) write to South Zone & Central Zone of the Education Dept. seeking compliance from all Educational Institution about the signage as per Section 4 & 6 (b) are in place and also to furnish the revised notification on Tobacco Free Education Institutions.

  Shri Roland Martins, Smt. Lorna Fernandes and other committee members including Senior Govt.  Officers and Mamlatdar from Dharbandora, Canacona, Sanguem and Canacona taluka attended the meeting.
