Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant attended the 106th Meeting of State Level Bankers’ Committee in Panaji today. The Meeting was held to discuss various aspects of the banking sector in the state and to facilitate better banking in Goan villages.

Extolling the achievement of Public Sector Banks in sectors such as Housing & Self Help Group finance, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant outlined the need to increase the coverage of welfare schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana to at least 70-80% of the population across the State. He also highlighted the fact that the education loan application process should be streamlined to remove hurdles posed by geography and urged the gathering of Bankers to facilitate agricultural loan off-take to deserving farmers. Dr. Sawant reiterated the crucial role played by Public Sector Banks with respect to the outreach of financial services to people at large and touched upon the need to streamline DSS scheme disbursement to beneficiaries.

Chief General Manager, Mumbai LHO Shri G. Ravindranath, on behalf of SBI, assured that every effort will be taken to meet the expectations of the State Government.

Earlier, General Manager State Bank of India, Mumbai LHO Shri. Sanjay Kumar welcomed the gathering. General Manager, NABARD Smt. Kamakshi Pai, Regional Director (MAH & GOA), Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai Shri. B.K. Mishra, Finance Secretary Shri. Daulat Hawaldar was also present on the occasion.
