Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said rupees 1.5 crores will be distributed to 800 people as a financial assistance within a period  of four days to those affected by the recent flood in Goa. The Chief Minister was speaking on the occasion of distribution of gratuitous relief under Goa State Disaster Management Fund scheme ( SDRF) & (CMRF) organized by Collectorate of South Goa at Rajeev Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda today.


Speaking further Chief Minister informed that minimum cheque of Rs. 10,000 for minor loss and maximum Rs.1,10,000 for total damage of house will be given as financial assistance under Goa State Disaster Management Fund scheme and Chief Minister Relief Fund. Chief Minister appealed to the people to contribute generously to the Chief Minister Fund and congratulated Santa Cruz rickshaw association for contributing an amount of Rs.50,000 towards Chief Minister Relief Fund to help the people who are affected during recent flood. 


Chief Minister informed that 150 cheques in Pernem taluka, 250 cheques in Bardez taluka, 105 cheques to Bicholim, 70 cheques to Tiswadi and 110 cheques to  Ponda taluka are distributed to the flood affected people. 


Chief Minister said pertaining to farmer's loss, assessment is under process and will be provided with financial assistance shortly. He also said that government efforts are to reach the last person who have been affected by natural calamities. Further he added that anyone who has suffered loss and has not been given the compensation may approach the concerned authorities so their case may be examined. 


Chief Minister appreciated the work done by the staff members of Collector office, Mamlatdar office, Police department, Fire and Emergency services, Navy people and those who have voluntarily helped during the flood. He said government is intend to felicitate those who have served voluntarily during flood. 


Further speaking, Chief Minister appealed to the people of Goa to make Goa open defication free and opined that Goa will achieve target shortly. He appealed to the people to apply for the schemes of Government and avail benefit of State and Central Government.


Speaking on the occasion, Art and Culture Minister Shri. Govind Gaude said when disaster takes place, it becomes very difficult to manage with machinery. Every individual has to take responsibility to avoid such instances in future. He said life is precious and people have to be alert so that proper actions can be initiated. He also said Chief Minister has taken prompt action within a short span of time to deliver the cheques to people affected during recent floods.
