CM LAUNCHES BUNGY JUMPING IN MAYEM

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant exhorting the people to maintain clean and beautiful Goa to boost tourism in the State felt that tourism sector was presently the major economic activity of the State superseding mining and agriculture over a period of years.

Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant was speaking after launching the Bungy Jumping activity and Upgraded and renovated Mayem Lake Boating side through the Department of Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation in association with Jumping Heights at Mayem, yesterday.

Speaking further, Dr. Sawant solicited the support of all stakeholders in the Industry to sustain and help promote tourism in the state. Stakeholders like Hotel, taxi owners in the State play a very important role in Goa’s tourism. He said tourists are like guests and referring to the Taittiriya Upanishad, he said the guests is Goa( Atithi Devo Bhava). Government he said will provide better infrastructure facilities to tourism sector.

          The up-gradation of Mayem Lake at a cost of Rs 16.6 crore will help to boost tourism in the area, Dr Sawant said and added that Government will make every effort to develop and boost tourism in this part of the state. He reiterated Government efforts to develop hinterland tourism and directed GTDC and Tourism Department to develop hinterland tourism and Medical tourism along with beach tourism.

Dr. Sawant hoped that the facility made available at Mayem lake will not only help boost tourism in Mayem but across the touristic destinations in the State.

Dy. Chief Minister and Minister for Tourism, Shri Manohar Ajgaonkar stressed that Government need to undertake more  such promotional activities to promote touristic spots in Goa in international market so as to bring quality tourist which he said will help to increase revenue of the State.

Shri Pravin Zantye complimented GTDC and Department of Tourism for returning the glory to Mayem Lake by upgrading the lake and connected infrastructure facilities. He also recalled the famous song “Ya ya Maya Ya” which had given name and fame to Mayem village.

Chief Minister felicitated Kum Neharika Nigam, first Bungy Jumper at Mayem.

Chairman Goa Tourism Development Corporation Shri Dayanand Sopte, Ex- Dy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Shri Anant Shet also spokes on the occasion.

President, Zilla Panachayat, Smt Ankita Navelkar, ZP Member Shri Shankar Chodankar, Smt Kunda Mandrekar, Director, Department of Information and Publicity, Shri Sanjiv Gadkar were present on the occasion.

MD, GTDC, Shri  Nikhil Desai, welcomed the guests. Shri Deepak Narvekar, PRO, GTDC compered the function.

The 55 meters bungee jumping platform stands tall over the gorgeous Mayem lake, in North Goa, about a 45 minute drive from the popular Baga Beach. Jumpin Heights is owned and run by ex Army officer, Capt Rahul Nigam, who introduced Bungee jumping in India at Rishikesh in 2010 having successfully operated over 80000 jumps in Rishikesh.

The Mayem lake is known for the scenic beauty, leisure activities, picnic spot, boating and photography etc. the project was conceived and implemented at a cost of Rs 16.6 crore for a total developed area of 13,333 sq mt.

The project comprises of development of tourism infrastructure facilities such as parking area for 57 cars, 40 two wheelers and 10 tourist buses with 12 m wide approach road and grand new entrance, ticketing booth, Development of Internal pathway for free movement of tourist, Natural trail and lake Parapet to feel an experience the lake view and the natural beauty, 12 nos of picnic spot of different capacity, children play area consisting with multiunit, swings, sew saw, slopes, mirror maze for children recreation, duck house, Amphitheatre of 120 persons capacity, 7 no souvenir shop and kiosk, 20 new Boats, Fishing Deck, water facility, safety and security of tourists, food court etc.
