The Department of Information and Publicity observed Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Punyatithi in its premises today. Director Smt. Meghana Shetgaonkar, Information Officers Shri. Prakash Naik, Shri. John Aguiar and other staff members were present on the occasion.

            The function began by offering floral tributes to the portrait of Lokmanya Tilak. In her address Director Smt. Shetgaonkar focused on the importance of organising such programs in the Department. “Death or Birth anniversary programs help us recall the contribution of our great leaders towards the society. Their deeds inspire us. Tilak was a fearless journalist, a quality which we all must inculcate. We should act responsibly and learn to express our views confidently. Patriotism combined will integrity in everyday life will help us gain self respect and satisfaction,” she stated.

            Calling Journalists the eyes and ears of society, Information Officer Shri. Prakash Naik said that we should use media powers judiciously and focus on constructive journalism. “A pen is always mightier than sword and hence, we should use it wisely for the benefit of the society,” he said.

            Information Officer Shri. John Aguiar congratulated the staff members for organising the program. He recalled Tilak’s contribution in the freedom moment and journalism and urged the staff to adopt his values in day-to-day living.

            A Documentary on Tilak’s life was screened in the department followed by quiz competition. Ms. Varsha Shirodkar, Smt. Darshana Vaingankar, Shri. Vishnu Gaonkar, Shri. Sunil Pal and Smt. Akshata Naik emerged winners of the competition.

            Earlier, Shri. Nikhil Prajakte welcomed the gathering while Shri. Dhananjay Kerkar and Smt. Pooja Palyekar read success stories highlighting Government achievements written by them. Smt. Janhhavi Savaikar compered the function and Smt. Clara Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
