Governor of Goa Smt Mridula Sinha offered floral tributes at the Martyrs Memorial at Azad Maidan, in Panaji today. The Governor laid a wreath in homage to the martyrs. Other dignitaries who also offered tributes were Minister for PWD, Shri Ramkrishna Dhavalikar, Minister for IT, Revenue, Shri Rohan Khaunte, DGP, Dr. Muktesh Chander, IPS, Collector, North, Shri Levinson Martins, Additional Collector I, Shri Vikas Gaunekar, Secretary, Education, Smt. Nila Mohanan, IAS, Shri Ameya Abhyankar, IAS, Secretary to Governor, Shri Rupesh Kumar Thakur, IAS, among others.
    Freedom Fighters Shri Vinayak Mordekar, Shri Gopal Chitari and Shri Avinash Shirodkar from the 18th June Kranti Din Samiti, Margao and President, Freedom Fighters Association Goa, Shri Pandurang Kunkolienkar, Treasurer, Shri Audumbar Shinkre, Secretary, Shri Vaman Prabhugaonkar, Member Shri Shridhar Verekar among others were present.
    A two minutes silence was observed on the occasion in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Later children from Bal Bhavan presented patriotic songs.
    The day marks the assassination of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and is commemorated as Martyr’s Day dedicated to all the people who sacrificed themselves for the country.
