CONSTITUTION IS THE SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND:PROF SIMOES

Asserting that the Constitution is the Supreme law of the land from which other laws flow, Assistant Professor and HOD of G.R. Kare College of Law, Smt Maria Gorretti Simoes highlighted the various fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.

 

Addressing the gathering at the Constitution Week Celebrations held at Salcete Taluka at Raia today, Smt Simoes, underlined the significance of the Constitution explaining the various rights bestowed upon every individual which the citizens of India should be aware of Smt Simoes, the resource person spoke on the topic “Constitution made simple for the Common Man” which was attended by Government officials, Sarpanchas, Panchayat Members of Village Panchayats of Salcete taluka, members of NGO’s and school children.

MLA, Shri Alex Reginald said, it is the duty and responsibility of every citizen to respect the Constitution and act accordingly. It is the honour and priviledge to be the citizen of the soverign country which has given equal rights to each and every citizen. Constitution assures citizens justice, equality and liberty he said. Constitution was framed by intellectuals he said.

Sarpanch, Raia Village Panchayat, Smt Esmeralda Gomes; Mamlatdar, Salcete, Shri John Fernandes; Deputy Director, Directorate of Panchayat, Smt Fiona Cardozo; Block Development Officer, Shri Amitesh Shirwaikar and Shri Milind Velip were present on the occasion.

 

The Constitution Week Celebration is  an initiative of the Governor of Goa,  Smt Mridula Sinha co-ordinated by Directorate of Higher Education and Department of Political Science, Goa University in support with V. M. Salgaoncar College of Law; G.R. Kare College of Law; Directorate of Panchayat, Education and the Collectorate of North and South Goa which commenced from January 19 to 25, 2019 across the State.
