NATIONAL LEVEL YOUNG SCIENTISTS AWARD TO BE CONSTITUTED IN PARRIKAR’S NAME: CM

The Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the 4th edition of Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav 2022 at the function organized by the Department of Science, Technology and Waste Management held at S. Z. Qasim Auditorium NIO Dona Paula today.

The Chief Minister speaking on the occasion said that this day has been marked as Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav to commemorate the birth anniversary of the former Chief Minister of the State and former Defence Minister of the country. Science, Technology and innovations were close to his heart. Fortunately this event, he said, has become a flagship event of the Department of Science & Technology wherein five thousand students across the State are participating in this event. The live streaming of this event on social media wherein 17 scientists of international repute will be interacting with the students. The festival will lead to inculcate scientific thinking and temperament among the student and teacher community at large, he informed

The Chief Minister further speaking disclosed that the Government intends to constitute a national level Young Scientists Award in the name of Manohar Parrikar which would be conferred on to the recipient from next year. He appreciated the Department of Science Technology and Waste Management for their endeavour to organize the event and making the same successful.

The Department of Science technology has signed MoU with the Government of India which will help to search eminent scientists in the country, he added

The Chief Minister speaking further said that we are proud that Dr. Andrea Colaco a Goan origin who has carved her name in the international centre of eminence, will deliver a speech on artificial intelligence. This event will be supported hereafter, he remarked.

Minister for Science, Technology and Waste Management Shri Atanasio Monserrate while addressing said that late Manohar Parrikar was instrumental in applying the principles of science and technology and innovations towards the developmental projects of the State. It was his dream to inculcate scientific temperament among the students so as to develop love for science. He said various schemes and policies are formulated for schools for science related activities to encourage scientific research. The Government has initiated steps towards the constitution of the State innovation Council in private engineering college, he added.

The Minister urged all high school and higher secondary school stakeholders to conduct trips to various places providing an opportunity for students to interact and gain knowledge. He congratulated the organizing committee for successfully organizing the event.

Chief Secretary, Shri Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS he said will benefit around five thousand students across the State. The Ex- Chief Minister had immensely contributed towards the development of the state. This festival will help our students to directly interact with the scientists of international repute. He said scientific temper is not confined to the students of science but for all of us. Scientific temper means rational thinking and raising questions, analysing etc.

Shri Goel asserted that the Government encourages researchers, and students to enhance scientific temper not only among them but also among common people. Teachers and Researchers are trained periodically on recent scientific innovations apart from allowing them to go abroad in pursuit of their dream, he informed..
