VITAL TO WORK TOGETHER TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT: CABRAL

Minister for Environment, Shri Nilesh Cabral said that each individual should owe up responsibility when it comes to protecting the environment and that is how we can all make a difference. He was speaking at the World Environment Day 2022 celebrations held today at Dona Paula.
Power consumption has increased because of the floating population, he said adding that the Government however, has been encouraging use of renewable energy like solar power in households but this has yet to be welcomed widely at individual levels in Goa. He stressed on how it’s vital to work hand in hand to protect the earth and leave it a better place for the future generation.
Secretary, Environment, Shri Arun Kumar Mishra, IAS, in his address mentioned that technical innovations were required in aspects such as bio energy generation and countering the increasing consumption of fossil fuel in Goa. This would help to a large extent in combating climate change in Goa, he added.
Adjunct Professor, Centre for Policy Studies, IIT Mumbai and former expert member of Hon’ble NGT, Dr Ajay Deshpande delivered the keynote address on ‘Circular economy for Climate Change: Policy and Governance Perspective’.
Chairperson of GSPCB, Shri Mahesh Patil spoke of how living sustainably was the need of the hour and stressed on the shared common responsibilities of citizens to protect the environment.
Member Secretary, Dr Shamila Monteiro proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier, winners of the quiz and poster competition held during the World Environment Day celebrations were handed over prizes. The dignitaries released the GSPCB Annual Report 2021-22.
The inaugural function was followed by a workshop on legal aspects and management of single use plastics.
