GOVERNOR LISTENS TO GRIEVANCES OF PANCHAYATS, VISITS OLD GOA CHURCH

In his interaction with the elected representatives of the Village Panchayats of Old Goa, Corlim and Cumbarjua, Governor of Goa, Shri P.S Sreedharan Pillai said that he wants people of Goa to be happy. Recalling his days when he was Governor of Mizoram, he said though Mizoram is a very poor State, it ranks number 1 on the happiness index and added, “In Goa, the Per Capita Income is high yet on the happiness index, it ranks far below other states.”
Listening to grievances put forth by the elected representatives in these villages, which included transport, employment, infrastructure etc, he assured to try his best to redress their issues.
He said that he was visiting villages in Goa because the actual life of India is in the village which is why even Mahatma Gandhi supported Gram Swaraj which is about villages become self-reliant.
The Governor disbursing financial assistance to dialysis patients said Raj Bhavan was committed to extending help to the needy people. It is written in the Constitution of India that the country should be a welfare state. In a democracy, the people are supreme. We pledge to give committed service to the people, he added.

Mihir Vardhan, IAS; Sarpanch, Old Goa Village Panchayat, Smt Janita Madkaikar; Sarpanch Cumbharjua Village Panchayat, Bindi Parab; Deputy Sarpanch, Shiva Naik; Deputy Collector, Shri Chandrakant Shetkar, Mamlatdar, Tiswadi, Shri Dashrath Gawas, panch members among others.
Cumbharjua MLA, Shri Rajesh Faldessai said that he was touched by the gesture of the Governor to visit Goa’s villages and feel the pulse of the people. Minister for Archives and Archaeology, River Navigation and Social Welfare, Shri Subhash Phaldessai highlighted the issues faced by the people of the Constituency and assured them of Government’s help.
Later, the Governor visited the Se Cathedral Church and Old Goa Church complex. Parish Priest of Se Cathedral, Fr Rosario Oliveira showed the Governor the various places of religious importance within the precincts. Union Minister of State for Tourism and Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Shripad Naik too was present on the occasion.
